  • Replenish your kits with new supplies regularly.

TAKE CARE AROUND TOXINS

  • Learn the potential hazards and proper use of all toxic materials - it's your right to know.
  • Whenever possible, keep hazardous products in their original containers
  • If you must change containers, label new ones with their contents.
  • Always check Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).

THINK FIRST . . . THEN LIFT SAFELY

  • Think before you lift, then bend at your knees, not at your waist.
  • Keep objects as close to your spine as possible and your back straight during the lift.
  • When in doubt, get help or use a lifting aid.
  • Avoid repeated twisting, bending, or excessive reaching when grabbing or carrying something or setting it down.

STAY SAFE AT PLAY

  • Wear the right protective gear and use the right equipment for every sport. Insist that your children do the same.
  • Make sure all protective gear is in good condition and fits properly.
  • Warm up and stretch before working out; cool down and stretch when you're done.
  • Drink plenty of fluids when exercising, especially in hot weather.

DON'T SLIP UP ON SAFETY!

  • Clean up spills as soon as they happen.
  • Keep passageways and stairs clean and clear.
  • Close drawers after use.

  • Develop a family escape route and know your way out. Practice!

KEEP SAFETY UP AS TEMPERATURES DROP

  • Be sure your car has adequate antifreeze, a working heater and defroster, and tires with good traction. Carry along an ice scraper.
  • Avoid overexertion; the strain from cold weather and heavy labor such as shoveling or pushing a car my cause a heart attack in less physically fit people.
  • Dress for the cold. Don't forget a hat and mittens or gloves.
  • Allow for extra time for traveling in bad weather and drive with caution.

  • Unplug holiday lights before leaving home and at bedtime.
